1-0-1 [one 'o one] intersex
1-0-1 [one 'o one] intersex examines the Human Rights Violations of intersex people: Infants, whose genitals are characterized as ambiguous continue to be surgically made to fit into standardized concepts of male and female bodies. The diagnosis of intersexuality is regularly concealed from them even into adulthood. Societie's acceptance of a gender diversity, which doesn't conform to the normative expectations of an unambiguous differentiation between two genders, is marginal. 1-0-1 intersex invites to think beyond and against the two gendered system: the exhibition, archive, series of events and comprehensive catalogue present artistic positions, experiences and initia-tives of intersex people, as well as historical, science critical, and legal backgrounds, in order to stimulate a broad discussion about gender borders and how intersexuality is treated in our society.
1-0-1 intersex pursues the question of how normative gender concepts are developed in demarcation of those whose gender is "ambiguous" and are maintained by making physical diversity invisible, and by accepting violations of the intersex people's physical integrity and dignity. Furthermore, the exhibition explores how these concepts regulate everyday social relations and why intersexuality affects us all. In doing so 1-0-1 intersex offers an open invitation to consider possible changes.
